'Mash' as it is commonly know is a carnival like festival signifying "celebration after hard work". This year our event will be celebrated under a theme "Showcasing our Culture : Sustaining our Pride". Mashramani, a festival that fuses the ethnic makeup of Guyana is celebrated to mark Guyana's anniversary date after gaining Republican status on the 23rd February, 1970. This year, Guyana will be celebrating 41 years to commemorate its birth anniversary as a Republican. This event is celebrated with floats and parades depicting various themes of our culture which will be display along the streets in Georgetown heading to the National Park. Families will usually converge on the roadsides picknincking and partying to calypso, chutney and soca music. Mashramani is also celebrated in every region across Guyana with events such as Calypso Competition, Steel Pan Competition and Children's Costume Parade.
